SP01, a new Australian design brand that combines down-under cool with tried-and-true Italian quality, makes its U.S. debut with the launch of Over / Under, a concept shop, developed in collaboration with Ladies & Gentlemen Studio (L&G Studio). The pop-up destination is a meeting hub for NYCxDesign – New York’s three-week, citywide festival of design.

The project marks L&G Studio’s first major interiors project, as the creative studio expands its reach beyond lighting, furniture and fashion accessories. Over / Under showcases Italian-made indoor and outdoor furniture collections from SP01—a fresh voice in the international design scene—accessorised with never-seen-before pieces from the Brooklyn-based studio.

“We looked to L&G Studio to design an experience beyond the traditional showroom—a destination where guests can relax into our pieces, which are designed with urban life in mind,” said Matt Lorrain, Head of Design and Product Development, SP01. “We’re thrilled to expand our growing presence in the U.S. during such an important international design event.”

The creative direction realises a spatial experience that is part showroom, part stage set, and part public space. Abstracted vignettes juxtapose the warm, grounded, minimal furniture of SP01 with ethereal lighting and sculpture by L&G Studio, exposing unexpected moments through coexisting contrast and likeness.

“With this project, we’ve expanded our creative vision beyond individual objects and into the entire experience,” said Jean Lee, co founder, L&G Studio. “Over / Under showcases a convergence of the two brands as complementary opposites — in many ways related and in many ways unique.”

The project will also include a special design library, Bibliography, curated by a w i n d o w studio and Various Projects, Inc. Featuring themes and authors that inspire and inform the different creative processes of L&G Studio, the space will provide a welcoming gathering spot for visitors to peruse and discover more about the world of design.
