Light as a feather, this apartment located in a new residential complex fifteen minutes from Moscow‘s centre is 63 square metres of ordered elegance. Designed by Lera Brumina for a young couple, this interior makes for a beautiful routine.

Considering Moscow can have a few too many gloomy days, the apartment had to look light. Located on the ninth floor with access to gorgeous natural afternoon light, the interior harnesses this feeling in its colours and materiality. Light plaster, oak parquet, sand-coloured mosaic, oak veneer, linen and sheep’s wool create a soft background for the vivid accents.

The kitchen feels like stepping into a quaint French bistro with shimmering brass details against a backdrop of French mosaic tiles, oak veneer In Between chairs by &Tradition and an original Jacques Biny wall lamp designed in the 50s that is very chefs kiss.

Brumina spices up the calm interiors with colourful accents. A glass partition wall with red detailing that separates the living and study space and a red-accented doorframe that acts as a transitional element from the kitchen to the hallway are playful without overwhelming the space. Sand coloured mosaic tiles with contrasting grout add drama to the bathroom.

Although compact, you wouldn’t know by looking at it. By avoiding unnecessary elements and giving preference to built-in storage and freestanding items on legs the space feels as uncluttered and open as possible.

Furniture is essentials only while still feeling comfortable, contemporary classics like the Ambit pendant by Muuto, Dublexo Styletto sofa by Innovation Living, AAC 21 chair and Pierre Charpin wall lamp by HAY feel timeless and restrained in the space, reflecting the minimal sensibility of the designs palette.

If these images had a scent I’d guess it would be freshly ground coffee in the morning. By finding the beauty in the ordinary, Brumina has designed a home that feels sun-drenched even when it’s not.
