The new apartment sales centre for real estate developer CIFI in Chongqing, China aims to be more than just an elegant sales space. Designed by Ippolito Fleitz, the building represents the aspirations of affluent, lifestyle-oriented Chinese millennials, who long to experience nature and prioritise sophisticated, artistic pursuits that transport them away from the atmosphere of fast-paced mega cities like Chongqing, one of the largest global metropolises with a population of over 30 million.

Representing the concept of living in graceful harmony with nature, the sales building is an important tool for CIFI to communicate with their target millennial demographic. Located on the outskirts of the city in a wooded and mountainous region, the arresting contemporary structure resembles an art gallery from the outside, comprising a striking curve with fully glazed facades. Interested parties are invited for a relaxing and informative visit; once the real estate sales phase is over, the building can be repurposed as a restaurant or club house.

Reflecting the surrounding landscape in their form, structure and surface quality, furniture and objects function as exhibits, fostering a dialogue between nature and art – a deliberate appeal to customer aspirations. A colour palette of gradient white and grey tones underscores the gallery-like character of the two-storey space. Visitors don’t see everything at once when touring each floor; rather, the designers created an intuitive journey. The ground floor focuses on the CIFI brand and sense of place, while the upper level introduces the architecture and design of the residential project.

The building uses multimedia to illuminate different perspectives of the retail development, encompassing nature, culture, and the apartments themselves. Polished floors, stark white walls, and screens comprised of glass rods form an elegant and contemporary backdrop. Thanks to the translucent glass facades, the building sits in harmony with the surrounding landscape, encouraging dialogue between man and nature. Visitors are thus reminded that the development is closely tied to nature, serving as a bucolic refuge beyond Chongqing city.
