Brought to life by an all-girl Croatian design studio Market kolektiv, Slava’18 is a furniture and decorative objects collection presented as a contemporary reinterpretation of the domestic interior aesthetics from the designers’ childhood memories.

The collection deliberately dodges the nowadays often routinely coned Scandinavian aesthetics. Instead, it endeavours to establish a design principle rooted in the representation of the visual sensibility of a time and a place that speaks of the designers’ background.

Slava (translating to ‘Glory’) embodies a continued development of an authentic regional design. Market kolektiv have given shape to a contemporary version of the distinct Slavic style, tapping into the collective consciousness of generations who grew up with the framework of a mundane local mentality and culture.

The collection embodies curvaceous lines to arrive at refined furniture pieces which extend beyond their basic geometrical shapes, awakening an unexpected emotional charge. The scenographic approach to the editorial photography, emphasising a feminine touch gives the design an unquestionably theatrical attitude.

Headed up by Katarina Perić, Marita Bonačić and Iva Hrvatin, Market collective is based in Zagreb, Croatia. Working across the fields of visual communication, product design and interiors, the studio specialises in the branding of commercial spaces and exhibition design concepts, whilst providing a wide range of complementary creative services. The trio is devoted to regularly collaborating with creatives from architecture, photography, illustration and production, which they feel strengthens their own design approach.

“We believe that designed objects show their full glory once they’re placed in space and put in use,“ explains the design trio. “This is why our aim is to design strong symbiotic relationships between our products and its surroundings.“

Slava ’18 premiered at this year’s Salone Satellite at Milan’s Salone del Mobile.
