Above Zero is a name we’ve come to know well—Rondure House in Kew, then Glyndon a little further along in Camberwell—and with Kooyong Gardens now in its portfolio, the boutique Melbourne developer’s through-line is clear: quality and craft over quick fashion. That standard lands at Camberwell House, a mixed-use building of fifteen levels above Camberwell Junction—a scale at which this much detail is rarely delivered. The idea underneath it is almost stubborn in its simplicity: timeless design, made to last.

The team assembled says as much. Architecture comes from Cera Stribley, interiors from Golden, landscape from Florian Wild and feature lighting from artist Nicole Lawrence—four disciplines pulling in the same direction.

Cera Stribley expresses that timelessness through materiality. The marble-clad podium picks up the arched forms of its surrounds, grounding the building in its streetscape rather than shouting over it. Full-height bronze-framed windows draw long views toward the City and the Dandenong Ranges, pulling light deep into each residence as the outlook shifts across the day. Generous balconies layer those views with greenery, the planting selected by Florian Wild.

Inside, Golden does what Golden does best: warm, softly spoken interiors built to last. Layouts follow daily ritual and ease of living, so each apartment reads more like a single dwelling than a unit in a stack. Mud rooms—borrowed, charmingly, from grand New York apartments—and double-island kitchens bring generosity and composure to the everyday. Materials do the quiet work: natural marble, warm timber and gentle tonal shifts, chosen for tactility as much as looks. Kitchens are fitted with fully integrated V-Zug appliances, the Swiss marque picked for its precision and understated design. Even light is handled as a material, drawn across surfaces to bring out their depth.

Each home gains its own character from the feature lighting by Nicole Lawrence, a maker whose background in gold and silversmithing runs right through the building. Her hand-blown wall sconces and pendants are hand-crafted and no two quite alike, each carrying the impressions left in glass and metal during making—a soft, warm, human counterpoint to Golden’s interiors and Cera Stribley’s architecture.

Beyond the apartments, the amenity offering is among the most generous in the precinct: a pool, spa, sauna, gym and private massage room, plus a private guest suite for visiting family and friends. A golf simulator, library and resident lounges round things out, alongside the project’s signature Chairman’s Lounges, which trade spectacle for privacy. The location does plenty of the talking too—minutes from Camberwell Market and the Rivoli, right on the junction—making the case for ease as the real luxury.
