Melbourne designer Ross Gardam creates contemporary furniture and lighting solutions which focus on timeless qualities that hark back to traditional materials. Simplicity and purity are the central mottos for the designer’s new studio space in Brunswick, designed in collaboration with MRTN architects.

“Our new studio serves as both design office and as a functioning workshop – where each of our products is hand assembled in-house with components sourced from across Melbourne,” says Ross. “We take pride in our ability to remain hands-on with the production of every piece we create. Our new home allows us to ensure each design is quality controlled to the highest level, from quality manufacturers.”

The new studio also doubles as a showroom, featuring several Gardam products like the new Nebulae collection and Polar wall lights amongst others.

The Hemera Desk Lamp for New Volumes is the latest addition to the Ross Gardam story, manufactured almost entirely from Elba marble. The Hemera features two solid circular forms, which intersect with one another, celebrating the simplicity of 60’s form and texture. The Elba throws a soft, circular glow, which appears to emit light naturally instead of artificially. Ross comments that “the goal for this project was to celebrate the beauty of natural materials, being true to the manufacturing processes and searching for something new, unique and precious.”

True to Ross Gardam’s designs is the focus on quality with the process of achieving this using traditional techniques and new technology.
