Brisbane-based travel photographer Kara Rosenlund‘s personal catalogue includes images of Byron Bay beaches misted over with salt haze, swell dotted with surfers, Bondi Icebergs at high noon, and rock pools splashed with turquoise sea. She’s captured far away, exotic, and extreme locations with big publishers like Condé Nast Traveler, Vanity Fair, National Geographic Traveller, Vogue Living, Gourmet Traveller, and Monocle—but it seems she’s most captivated by the sand, salt, and sea of her own backyard.

To blow out that homeland connection so to speak, Kara has now released a limited edition series of oversized, extra-large prints. The size that is impossibly arresting, drawing you into her view of an endless sea stretching into a pink horizon. The new larger scale is an impressive 167 x 111cm and includes romantic black and white scenes, as well as earthy neutral Australian landscapes, and calm blue seascapes.

The new super-size allows the images to set the tone and the emotion of a room. “By deliberately choosing to include the oversized pieces it meant the space wasn’t going to be cluttered with other bits of furniture,” Kara said in a statement. “When you scale up a photograph to these proportions there is nowhere to hide.”

Photographs can be purchased unframed, or framed in Kara’s signature ribbon of Tasmanian oak. Leant against a wall, doubled up for impact, or placed at the entryway to an office or home—Kara’s big images will transport you.
