Fabio Ferrillo typically plays in the high fashion world—he’s best known for designing experiences, catwalks, and showrooms charged with emotional impact for of-the-moment Italian label MSGM. In this instance, however, the Milanese-based architect has lent his knack for emotive interiors to an osteria in the heart of the Langhe region in his native Italy.

Led by Michelin-starred chef Emilio Garola, Campamac Osteria di livello is located in Barbaresco, a red wine town in the Province of Cuneo known for a producing a drop of the same name (it’s in the Nebbiolo grape variety). The region is known for not just wine, but cheese and truffles too—and Fabio’s new high-end osteria has been conceived as a dining slash shopping space where visitors can buy local produce, speciality Nebbiolo glassware, contemporary art, and design pieces like Sweeper’s Clock by Dutch designer Maarten Baas.

While for the most part shopping takes place in the front cocktail bar, the more serious task of eating is left to the dining room. Everything is warm and luxurious: deep burgundy leather bench seats, dark timber, and custom brass lamps. In the centre of the parquet is a marble inlay, designed as a sort of statement rug.

“I designed every single detail, from lighting to furniture, establishing a dialogue between the concrete walls and the town of Barbaresco, but filtering the view to the outside through a green, tropical scenery,” explains Fabio. There’s a high-tech kitchen, and an almost hidden staircase leads to a secret cellar, which features a central table in marble and iron—also designed by Fabio.
