Atlanta-based interior designers Kate Hayes and Krista Sharif’s debut collection Brite Bodies is a line of spirited and exuberant furniture and home accessories coming to market this month. United by a shared passion for playful, heirloom objects, Hayes and Sharif founded Brite Bodies in an effort to blend old-world materials with futuristic artistry, creating designs that are sophisticated, whimsical and original.

Drawing inspiration from the modern punk designs of Vivienne Westwood to the geometry found in celestial motifs, the debut collection features objects and designs ranging from coffee tables to candlesticks in which joyful irreverence hopes to spark a human connection, conversation and inclusion.

Reinterpreting the bold spirit of their favourite artists, designers, authors, and musicians —  from the playful Maximalism of Ettore Sottsass to the planetary watercolour illustrations found in Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince — the name “Brite Bodies” is a kaleidoscopic nod to the luminous mediums of expression that influence everything we do and make.

Using plaster, resin, wood and brass as material inspiration, the collection involved a trial and error process before landing on the final designs. Both Hayes and Sharif were particularly drawn to the ancient decorative material of plaster given its tactile quality. Each object is cast in Aqua-Resin, a non-toxic water-based fabrication polymer that allows each piece to be easily cleaned with water and a towel.

“With Brite Bodies, we sought out to create energetic, adventurous and inclusive designs that stir your senses and soul. Given the unusual times we’re living in, the aim of the collection was to captivate and transport. The end result is a body of work that’s intentionally unidentifiable in time,” says Hayes.

“We believe that great design requires a generosity of spirit — a desire to delight, surprise, comfort, and invite. That’s why we dream and design in beautiful layers, textures, hues and histories,” says Sharif.

A portion of all proceeds of each Brite Bodies sale will go to Drawchange, an organization dedicated to aiding global change by supplying impoverished children with empowering art experiences.
