For Atelier de Troupe’s latest collection, the design studio took a leaf out of Theo van Doesburg’s book. His letterpress book to be exact, which in 1923 bold, towering letters revealed the title—Wat is DADA?

The L.A. based furniture and lighting brand has always taken a narrative approach to its collections, softening the ascetic grammar of the Bauhaus with layered references to vintage Italian and French design. For this 2022 drop, the studio looks to emulate the two opposite vanguards of Bauhaus and Dada—the functional and surreal. The DADA collection pushes boundaries visually as nothing is linear but intentionally multifaceted depending on the vantage point.

In the collection is the DADA Armchair, Side Table, Chandelier, Sconce and Medusa sconce and pendant. All the pieces feature undulating shapes in polished stainless steel frames and fluid structures.

The brand’s furniture and lighting is comfortably minimalist, synthesising disparate influences into one cohesive vision for modern life. Every A de T piece is hand manufactured by local fabricators, minimising waste and allowing for responsible sourcing and extensive customization.
