Boutique film studio Peoplegrapher have a new office in Dusseldorf designed by Berlin-based experimental interiors studio Vaust. Rather than being a typical run-of-the-mill studio, Peoplegrapher describe themselves as ‘film atelier’. Therefore, VAUST treated the space more like a gallery than an office, concentrating on imbuing an artistic aura and appearance.

The only requirement was that the space included closed-off areas for meetings, socialising and work. Taking this on board, the designers stripped the interior back to underline bold concepts within a minimal framework. Offshoot rooms are encased by black steel-framed glass, affording privacy and quiet without sacrificing an open-plan feel.

“We decided to leave learnt office principles of design behind and created a space with an intellectual demand for purism,” explain VAUST.

A monochrome black and white palette enhances the clean lines of the two-storey volume, with polished white floors and white walls contrasting the black steel frames and black furnishing accents. Mirrored surfaces expand the perception of space and enhance a glossy, reflective quality throughout. A blackened staircase divides each light-filled level, divided by a dominant curtain. Full height linen curtains line the corridors, softening the distribution of natural light.

A contrasting surprise against the gallery-like white that pervades most of the interior, an entertainment room is wrapped entirely in midnight blue velvet. A blue velvet carpet, full-height blue velvet curtains, and blue velvet ottomans create a distinctly intimate atmosphere, enhanced by décor including a bar cart complete with old-school crystal glasses.
