Jingyuan No.22 is a transformation of an old 330sqm cotton warehouse in Beijing, China into a coworking office owned by two young Internet finance companies. Local practice C+ architects created an interactive coworking space with multiple possibilities and narratives through furniture layouts and natural light control.

Each level has an independent looping circulation path that is organised along the central courtyard. The main conference space with white walls for projections within the courtyard act as the visual centre of the entire building, and also as a considerable functional area as the main venue for company meetings and socialising.

In addition to main conference area, other spaces feature through  the space such as the cafeteria, sunken sitting area next to the secondary entrance, library zone on the upper floor and the grand OSB staircase adaptable for group discussion or temporary small-scale teamwork for programmers.

Translucent glass blocks were used to replicate half of the original red bricks on the western façade. These provide a soft, comfortable illumination for the interior while avoiding heat issues caused by the western orientation. Now when the weather is nice, the entire building can rely on natural illumination, and people can experience the changing daylight throughout the year.
