Have I got a little treat for you today or what. What? A treat. Yes, that’s what I said. Anyway, my Instabuddies would’ve spotted Team Yellowtrace had an opportunity to chat to the incredibly talented, world-renown designers Andrea Trimarchi & Simone Farresin of Formafantasma during Milan Design Week 2016. I have followed and admired Andrea and Simone work for such a long time, so having the opportunity to meet them was an absolute honour and a real treat. The duo were of course the designers behind this year’s site specifict series of installations, Lexus – An Encounter with Anticipation, which you can read about in more detail right here.

With names like Andrea & Simone, you can probably work out for yourself they are both Italian. They are also graduates of the acclaimed Eindhoven Design Academy, where they attended the Master’s program together as a team. In 2014, the duo relocated to Amsterdam, where they’ve set up their studio where the magic happens.

What else can I tell you about Andrea & Simone that you may not know yourself? Well… They are of-course ridiculously clever, completely gorgeous and really lovely people. There is a certain wisdom, elegance and other-worldliness about them which is difficult to articulate. It’s almost as though they hail from another time and place, where people who live there are wiser beyond their age. But most importantly, the duo know how to rock a patterned shirt with gusto, which is difficult to ignore. Respect!

And what has Team Yellowtrace learned from this experience? Well, we should’ve miked up so that you could hear us better. Like, duuuh. The thing with us and Milan is that, up until this year, I was adamant about NOT doing ANY interviews with ANYONE during the week, because we move so much and cover a lot of ground, and interviews can take a lot of time. But this year, I felt we needed to bring a new element to out report – a new angle which will give you an insight into Milan from other people’s perspectives, and who better to do that than those who were exhibiting during the week and whose work I adore. So, we decided to compromise and go a bit rogue with our interview approach – ask a few simple questions and film it in a single take, just like an informal chat, so you guys feel like you were right there.

So without further ado, I give you our first Milantreace Moment with Formafantasma. I sincerely hope you love!
