Float Studio unveils a 930-square-metre financial firm headquarters in New York’s NoMad district within the historic Cooper-Bregstein Building. Rather than fighting against the 1970s concrete waffle slab ceiling, the design team embraced its architectural character, creating a sophisticated workspace that honours the past.

The project is filled with bespoke design details that elevate functional spaces. Upon entering, visitors encounter a sculptural reception desk inspired by Vittorio Introini, finished in deep Lyon’s blue and perfectly scaled for the compact New York footprint. Nearby, a custom console pays homage to Sergio Rodrigues, introducing modernist minimalism to the entry sequence.

The conference room demonstrates a thoughtful approach to both aesthetics and practicality. A rhombus-shaped boardroom table improves sightlines for virtual meetings with elegant dovetail connections that reference George Nakashima’s craftsmanship. The room’s 70s revival aesthetic comes through in purply-blue broadloom carpet from Bentley Mills, stainless steel tambour details, and butter-soft leather accents that feel both nostalgic and current.

Flexible seating solutions address the realities of modern workplace dynamics. Bleacher-style seating wraps the conference room’s perimeter, creating an amphitheatre-like atmosphere for larger gatherings, while acoustical drapes add intimacy and visual softness to the space.

Moving through the office, vibrant eucalyptus wood cabinetry and hand-fired red tiles in the pantry area provide unexpected colour moments. A handcrafted cornflower blue sofa table offers contrast to the warmer palette, while Float’s industrial-edged Bolt table from Uhuru anchors the common area with clean lines.

The furniture and lighting selection reflects careful curation, with pieces from TRNK, Santa & Cole, and Vitra/Artek supporting the sophisticated aesthetic. A Segment Sofa in Dedar’s Strange Loves fabric provides comfortable seating in the townhall, while Santa & Cole’s Dorica floor lamp adds sculptural presence to the reception area.

In this workspace, understated brand colours, bespoke detailing, and purposeful layout combine to create an environment that feels both professional and welcoming. It’s the kind of space that honours architectural history while meeting the demands of contemporary business.
