Portland-based artist Damien Gilley creates optical illusions that explore imaginary architecture from strips of coloured tape. His large-scale site-specific complex works are executed through drawing and sculptural practices. His illusions, based on the specific proportions and perspectives of the chosen site, challenge the viewers perception.Referencing influences from science fiction, Non-Euclidean geometry, and vintage computer graphics, Gilley’s works create hybrid-viewing situations reminiscent of digital retro-futurism. His clever installations extend the parameters of flatness. What’s not to love? See more tape art on Yellowtrace.
