Running from 21st to 26th April 2026, the world’s most influential furniture fair has unveiled two significant announcements that signal a new direction for the event. Salone Raritas Debuts at the 2026 FairFirst up is Salone Raritas, a brand new exhibition space dedicated to limited edition design, antiques, and high-end craftsmanship. Curated by Annalisa Rosso, the Salone’s Editorial Director and Cultural Events Advisor, and designed by research-driven studio Formafantasma (led by Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin), this initiative bridges the gap between collectible design and the B2B contemporary design market for the first time.Located in Pavilions 9-11, Salone Raritas will bring together leading galleries and an international audience of architects, interior designers, developers, and hospitality professionals. The exhibition recognises a clear shift in how the industry values limited editions and unique pieces, particularly within high-profile residential, hospitality, and retail projects.Maria Porro, President of the Salone del Mobile.Milano, explains the thinking behind this new venture: “Salone Raritas was born of an awareness that is also a responsibility, which is to read the evolution of the international market and provide a response consistent with the identity of the Salone del Mobile.Milano.”Annalisa Rosso, Curator, Salone Raritas adds: “We have worked to build a new design, cultural and commercial ecosystem that constitutes a concrete and valuable opportunity for both exhibitors and visitors, generating new connections and market opportunities.”Formafantasma has conceived the exhibition space as a “large architectural lantern” – a porous landscape that prioritises light and rhythm while allowing each gallery to maintain its identity within a unified layout. “We imagined Salone Raritas as a legible and permeable architectural landscape, a lantern that puts light and rhythm at the service of the pieces,” the duo notes. Created by creative agency Motel409, the campaign is a collaborative project involving photographers Charles Negre, Eduard Sánchez Ribot, and Alecio Ferrari, alongside set designers Studio Végété, Laura Doardo, and Stilema Studio.Following last year’s human-centric “Thought for Humans” campaign by Bill Durgin, this year’s approach places matter firmly at the centre of the design conversation. Federico Grassi, Creative Director, Motel409 said: “We asked ourselves what happens to matter when seen through the lens of design. We didn’t want to illustrate design, but to evoke it.”The campaign explores materiality through four key elements: stone represents origin; petal embodies sensuality; wood speaks to function; and sponge addresses reinvention. The narrative unfolds across a three-act structure, moving from close-up material exploration to archetypal objects, culminating in human gesture – hands, tools, and materials coming together in dialogue.Photographer Charles Negre captures the spirit of the project: “Every material has its own energy, and all we need to do is to know how to channel this energy, through images, in order to get through to the public.”Salone del Mobile.Milano continues to position itself not only as a commercial platform but also as a cultural infrastructure where design’s depth and potential are explored in meaningful new ways. The event takes place from 21st to 26th April 2026 at Fiera Milano, Rho. DISCOVER MORE <A Matter of Salone communication campaign for the 2026 edition was created by creative agency Motel409.
