Rezen Studio has unveiled Procure Office, a handsomely balanced boutique workplace sitting within the shell of a historical building in Fremantle. Designed to service their client’s range of businesses, the interior delivers a flexible space that’s responsive to the historical foundation of the existing shell while being unquestionably modern.

The office features an open organic planning solution as spaces softly flow into one another. Despite a lack of distinct spatial separation, the floor plan becomes divided into zones using scale, material, and textural differences. A central meeting bench acts as the anchor of the project, it’s textural royal blue form winds throughout the room acting as a connective tissue joining each zone.

Existing heritage brickwork and timber elements are met with a restrained, soft scheme that feels much lighter than the dense textures of the original building. “Warm natural oak, white, tonal nudes and touches of royal blue add to the visual depth and provide some definition of space”, explain the design team.

An integrated planting scheme injects lush greenery into the space – quite literally as a tree grows directly out of the white top of the communal workbench. Rezen Studio outline that, “the integrated planting softens and freshens while a pergola feature with hanging vines and pendant lights provides a tactile and supportive backdrop to the meeting and socialising hub”.

The gridded, plant-filled ceiling, tucked between the existing portal frame structures, stretches above a small kitchenette. The use of soft white hues and warm timber continues, blending seamlessly with the rest of the project. The kitchen is bookended by an intimate meeting zone that lies behind sliding glass doors that reveals a framed view of the historic town hall clock tower.

Procure Office melds contemporary design with the existing heritage structure, creating a scheme that simultaneously celebrates the past and the future.
