Brooklyn-based creative agency An Aesthetic Pursuit have renovated an 1878 home in Kennebunk, Maine, United States, to act as an alternative universe where beautiful design is communicated as much more than a collection of furnishings, but instead as an all-consuming way of living. The Piece Home is an opportunity for prospective customers, design nerds or those just looking for an Airbnb to fully immerse themselves in the products, designs and furnishings of An Aesthetic Pursuit’s ‘Pieces Collections’ and the collections of their partners. The home, therefore, becomes a rentable showroom, its Airbnb customers able to see how their daily rituals could be transformed, challenged or supported by the shoppable designs, which illuminate every inch of the home.

Guests are greeted with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and both indoor and outdoor living areas. Each space becomes a celebration of colour, texture, shape and material, every room taking on a distinct and different voice than the one before. An 18-meter long rainbow rug snakes its way through the U-shaped dining and living rooms in colourful stripes, a vivacious element, which sits below a pair of simple wooden dining chairs. This coupling showcases the playful and kooky nature of the designs when looked upon in isolation. However, when paired together, there is a level of refinement and complexity that is inviting and visually interesting.

A multicoloured gradient rug snakes down the staircase, while layered natural tones coat a bathroom. There is a fine harmony achieved within the spaces, where loudness is counterbalanced by quiet, sensitive choices. The styling solidifies the success of a shoppable stay concept for An Aesthetic Pursuit as consumers can see the beauty and livability of their pieces, carving out a place for bold furnishings in domestic space.
