Australian design brand NAU debuted on the European market at 3 Days of Design in Copenhagen this June, presenting a compelling showcase of contemporary Australian furniture and lighting design at Galerie Mikael Andersen. The exhibition centred around two standout new collections by Sydney-based designer Tom Fereday: the elegant Cove seating collection and the luminous Nola table lights. The Cove collection, comprising an armchair and sofa, takes its name from the gently sweeping curves that form the armrests, referencing minimal architectural cove forms. Originally presented as limited edition aluminium pieces in 2022, this commercial iteration in solid oak and walnut timber marked a significant evolution for the design.Fereday’s Nola lights are equally captivating, crafted from hand-cast crystal glass and honed solid stone with concealed light sources that emit a soft, warm luminosity. These pieces exemplify NAU’s commitment to natural materials and considered craftsmanship. The showcase also featured an impressive selection of pieces by Adam Goodrum, whose work has become synonymous with NAU’s aesthetic. Visitors experienced the cloud-like comfort of the Billo seating collection with its billowing forms and integrated bolster details, alongside the elegant simplicity of the Molloy chairs and tables. The Aran Sofa’s hand-stitched bolster detail and the Fat Tulip Armchair’s modern interpretation of the traditional club chair demonstrated the depth of NAU’s contemporary range. The presentation allowed international visitors to experience firsthand the rich textures and quality craftsmanship that define Australian design. This Copenhagen debut followed NAU’s involvement in furnishing the Australian Pavilion at World Expo 2025 in Osaka, marking another significant milestone in the brand’s international expansion. Since its founding in 2017, NAU has grown organically to become a respected voice in contemporary Australian design, focusing on pieces that blend modern aesthetics with traditional craftsmanship. The three-day festival provided the perfect platform for NAU to connect with the international design community. “We were incredibly excited to bring NAU to the European market and participate in 3daysofdesign,” Munao reflected. “This event was the perfect platform to introduce our unique Australian design ethos to a global audience.”The exhibition demonstrated how Australian design continues to find its place on the global stage, with NAU’s philosophy of honest materials and thoughtful functionality resonating strongly with international audiences seeking authentic, well-crafted contemporary furniture.
