Italian design studio Marcante-Testa created renderings of a dreamlike palace as the setting for their latest collection ‘Dekorami’ for Ceramica Vogue. ‘Tale of Tiles’ shows the ceramics cladding the walls of ambiguous, metaphysical spaces, where the tiles take centre stage. The collection comprises glazed stoneware in three patterns, Kolonne, Koriandoli, and Kodici, each in a 26x26cm format.

The renderings complement the colour of each tile with surrealist architectural elements. The deep emerald green tile is shown surrounding what appears to be an indoor pond, complete with reeds, lily pads and a lone frog. Deep blue tiles surround an indoor pool, while silky cream tiles are enhanced by simulated marble and textured blue cork.

Marcante-Testa says the micro-patterns of the tiles, “activate a tactile memory that brings to mind decorations and stylistic features from the past, just as the architecture itself evokes settings from times that are not easy to understand.”

Rather than insert furniture or human beings to establish specific functions, exotic animals the only enigmatic presence, a motif used to convey an unresolved atmosphere.

Explains Marcante-Testa, “the animals appear frozen and the light, often at the zenith and enhanced by the reflection on the ceramics, contributes to inducing contemplation.”

The ambiguity of the rooms allows the tiles to shine, quite literally as the renderings use light and shadow to show off their glossy glaze. The tiles are available in four colours, coming in white as well as the aforementioned blue, green, and silk, with matching backgrounds and closing listello tiles.
