Click here to watch the embedded video. Holy crap! How cool is this? In case you’re confused – don’t fret – here’s what’s going on. You are looking at an exciting collaboration between shoe designer Minna Parikka and Helsinki-based illustrator Janine Rewell. In these arresting images, several skills of excellence are at play, such as body-paint, illustration, fashion, photography and excellent art direction. Rewell’s iconic geometric patterns were meticulously hand-painted onto women modelling Parikka’s shoe collection, creating an effect of human camouflage on top of vibrant backdrops.“I’ve been wanting to use the body as a canvas for my designs for a long time,” Rewell explained. ”When I started researching about body-painting I noticed that, as an art form and as a technique, it’s still quite marginal, and it hasn’t really been used in the field of fashion and design.”Well, hasn’t this woman changed that once and for all and showed us how it’s done? Nailed it.[Art direction & illustration: Janine Rewell. Photography: Jonas Lundqvist. Shoe design: Minna Parikka S/S14 Collection. Body Paint: Riina Laine & Saara Sarvas.
