When Pierre Paulin’s F300 Lounge Chair first appeared in the late 1960s, it looked like furniture from another era entirely. With its fluid curves and revolutionary materiality, the sculptural seating sensation seemed to have been beamed in from the future. Now, more than five decades later, GUBI is bringing this iconic design back to production, marking another significant addition to their celebrated Pierre Paulin collection.

Following the overwhelming success of their Pacha reissue, GUBI’s decision to revive the F300 feels both natural and necessary. The chair’s distinctive form—with no flat surfaces anywhere—invites multiple sitting positions and embodies the casual, comfort-led aesthetics that defined 1970s interiors. Its timeless futurism has kept it relevant through changing design movements, earning a permanent place in MoMA’s collection.

“After GUBI’s successful reissue of the Pacha, it is wonderful to see another of Pierre Paulin’s most cherished designs return to production. The F300 perfectly embodies my father’s approach to design and the balance between sculpture, elegance, and comfort he sought in his work,” says Benjamin Paulin, son of the legendary French designer.

GUBI’s commitment to responsible manufacturing sets this 21st-century revival apart. The original F300 was crafted from fibreglass or injected polyurethane, but the new version utilises HiREK®—an engineered polymer made from industrial plastic waste. This innovative material retains the durability and smooth, high-gloss finish of the original while significantly reducing production waste.

The manufacturing process involves bespoke moulds developed specifically for the F300, pressing the injected HiREK® into Paulin’s organically curved forms. The result is a chair that’s both lightweight and robust, resistant to UV rays, weathering, and pressure, perfect for both indoor and outdoor use.

“We are delighted to expand GUBI’s portfolio of Pierre Paulin designs beyond the Pacha to include another, equally boundary-breaking design,” explains Marie Kristine Schmidt, CEO of GUBI. “With its utterly distinctive, futuristic form, the F300 Lounge Chair has proved itself as timeless as any of the great chairs of modernist design history.”

The reissued F300 arrives in two distinctive colourways: Alabaster White and a characteristically 1970s Pastel Green, both available with various upholstery options. Accompanying the chair is its natural companion, the T877 Side Table, offered in the same colours plus additional options including Violet Ice, Honey Gold, and Molé.

Available from mid-May 2025, F300 chair and the T877 Side Table exemplify Paulin’s genius for creating designs that function as both practical furniture and sculptural statements.

Gubi is available in Australia from Cult.
