Young Mexican design brand studio davidpompa has presented two new lamps during Design Week Mexico 2017. The collection conveys a feeling of timeless style by combining cantera rosa and copper.

Cantera is a rock made out of volcanic ashes and lava, created as a result of volcanic explosions. This specific type of cantera rosa comes from San Luis Potosí, Morelia and Zacatecas in Mexico. It is a stone broadly used in cities all over Mexico for structures and local architecture, since the pre-Hispanic era and mainly during the colonial times. Softness and composition are some of its characteristics which make it very noble to work with, allowing the material to be carved with precision.

Ambra Table Lamp is a striking, decorative and luminous sculpture created to enhance the purity and honesty of the materials and manufacturing. Ambra is designed as a table lamp that will stand out in any space. The combination of materials creates contrasting textures. A tubular structure is used through the middle of the table lamp, defining its operative form. This structure supports a cantera slab that works as a reflector for the light. It also allows the cantera to snap into place and become an accessory that acts as a light reflector of both materials and space.

With an eye-catching personality, Ambra Wall is a unique lamp that stands out for its minimal, unusual proportions. Its volumes provide an interesting downlight to interior settings by projecting the light onto the wall. The wall light comes with a G9 LED bulb that generates a soft indirect glow. It creates a third visual element that complements the two cylindrical volumes. Group arrangements of this lamp, even rotating it in different directions, can turn any wall into a visual interplay.

Studio davidpompa launched the Ambra family during Design Week Mexico 2017 in one of the event’s most iconic locations: Diseño contenido. This emblematic venue is known for its containers, where young designers show their latest work.
