Melbourne’s Christopher Boots has expanded beyond lighting with Thalamos, the studio’s first collection of objects designed to elevate everyday rituals. The five-piece series comprises cast brass forms that bring a sense of ceremony to daily life: the Bloom Vase, Altar Platter, Keepsake Trinket Box, Censer Incense Holder, and Ember Ashtray.

Drawing inspiration from the Greek word thalamus—meaning inner chamber containing sacred treasures—the collection embodies themes of intimacy, secrecy, and personal sanctuary. This conceptual foundation aligns perfectly with Boots’ ongoing exploration of the inner sanctum, a visual language that has been evolving throughout his practice for several years.

The Thalamos aesthetic builds upon previous works, including the Salus Oil Burner, alabaster Capital Candle, Iris lighting, and the recent Theia lighting series. Each piece features the studio’s signature stepped silhouettes, originally inspired by a cast glass Art Deco ornament that Boots simplified and reinterpreted into his contemporary design vocabulary.

“The Thalamos series nurtures daily rituals and elevates one’s own sanctuary,” explains founder Christopher Boots. “Intimate, personal spaces were at the forefront of our minds when designing this collection: the bedroom, living room, and kitchen—spaces where there is an ingrained sense of habitual ritual.”

True to the studio’s commitment to longevity, each Thalamos piece is crafted locally in Victoria using traditional casting techniques. The brass objects receive a ‘slight polish’ finish that preserves some of the original casting texture, creating visual intrigue and appealing tactility while maintaining an earthy quality that speaks to their handmade origins.

This material approach reflects the studio’s philosophy of creating “future antiques”—pieces designed with quiet timelessness that invite moments of daily interaction to be savoured. The sensorial nature of the brass, combined with the collection’s ritualistic function, positions each object as both a functional tool and a contemplative artifact.

The collection represents a natural evolution for the studio, established on 11-11-11, which has built its reputation on material and metaphysical exploration. From its origins in quartz crystal work to this latest brass series, Christopher Boots continues to marry traditional and cutting-edge techniques in pursuit of transformative design.

Thalamos retails from AUD$289 and is available through Christopher Boots’ online store.
