Biggy Fast Food Restaurant in Wroclaw, Poland by Buckstudio | Yellowtrace

Imagine walking through a physical manifestation of Mondrian’s “Composition with Red, Blue and Yellow”. Whatever images sprang to mind simply cannot begin to compete with the chaotic boldness of Buckstudio’s Biggy, a 90’s American inspired fast food restaurant in Wroclaw, Poland.

Blue tiles, each outlined by strips of vivid red grout meet a confetti covered floor. Tables look as though they have been dripped into a vat of bright yellow paint and screens of gridded wire play a life-size game of Pac-Man as they weave their way throughout the restaurant. The 165 square meter interior is more than just a mere background for the consumption of pizza, beer and burgers. It is a colourful playground for adults. A moment where design begins to have a flashy conversation with those who visit, in this case, metaphorically and literally as a neon sign that asks the question, “You wanna pizza me?”

Although the interiors demand all-consuming attention, there is a sense of refinement amongst the wild choices, found in the contemporary interpretation of minimalism. Simple geometric grids and primary colours are repeated and layered in differing scales throughout the space. There is also a seemingly endless amount of colour combinations using red, blue and yellow which coat all built elements, furnishings and signage.

Buckstudio has created a fully immersive, sensory experience, producing a restaurant that represents the tangible manifestation of the playful atmosphere BIGGY represents. We applaud their ability to inject such a powerful energy into the space, an energy that almost brings all inanimate objects within its walls to life. There is a natural excitement that leaps from its doors, willing guests to enter the gridded matrix within.
