The Australian design powerhouse Space Furniture has opened the world’s first standalone B&B Italia Outdoor showroom, making design retail history. It’s a significant moment that reflects three decades of partnership between two brands at the forefront of contemporary design.Located at 85 Commonwealth Street in Surry Hills—right in the heart of Sydney’s buzzing art and design precinct—this new showroom offers a carefully curated environment that showcases the full breadth of B&B Italia’s outdoor collection From the legendary Basilan-1 Series to contemporary favourites like Patricia Urquiola’s Canasta collection. The story behind B&B Italia Outdoor is fascinating. Back in 1975, the brand launched its outdoor division through Compagnia delle Filippine, working with design duo Afra and Tobia Scarpa. The pair actually travelled to the Philippines to study local materials and traditional weaving techniques, creating a fusion of Italian design innovation with authentic craftsmanship. This collaboration birthed the now highly collectable Basilan-1 Series and established a new vision for outdoor furniture that went far beyond basic patio settings.
