Prix Fixe is a first time collaboration between two clever and seasoned operators in the Melbourne hospitality scene, chef Philippa Sibley and restaurateur Jason Jones. The duo commissioned Fiona Lynch to create their latest dining room and Australia’s first ticketed restaurant. Prix Fixe embraces the inherent sense of theatre present in busy, dynamic restaurants, and celebrates a return to glamorous dining. The restaurant interior is formed from a material palette of mirror and marble, brass and metallic glazed linen, exposed ceiling fixtures and concrete, with a bold, confident and directional aesthetic. The end result is ultimately a play on contrasts – moody and inviting, luxe and raw, but above all incredibly dramatic.

Paris-based Lebanese-born restaurateurs, Liza Soughayar and Ziad Asseily, recently made a comeback on the upmarket Middle Eastern dining scene with their latest venture – Liza Beirut. The restaurant, named after it’s owner and the city that inspired it, is located in the stylish suburb of Achrafieh in East Beirut. The sprawling 500sqm interior is housed on the first floor of a historical venue that is the Metropolitan Club – the former residence of some of Lebanon’s most prominent families.
Tomorrow Machine is a Swedish design studio that specialises in packaging, product, and food concepts. They recently partnered with INFARM, a Berlin-based indoor farming start up, to develop a never-before-seen microgreen indoor growing kit. ‘Microgarden’ as the next generation of home farming – an incubator that aims to provide urban communities with the freedom to grow fresh, organic produce, no matter the season, right at home.
Artist and photographer Zeren Badar has an intriguing way of creating compelling art. He does it by accident. Ok, so that may not be completely accurate, but as you see in this series of photos titled “Accident Series”, Badar explores a peculiar combination of photography, painting and collage to create new and unexpected images. In this photography project, he puts together unlikely combinations to generate a 3D feel with found objects, food and cheap old paintings to generate a completely new type of image.
Ruyi Dumpling & Wine Bar opened its fabulous Hecker Guthrie designed doors earlier this month in Melbourne. The 56 seater restaurant is a union of beautifully presented contemporary Chinese food, exceptional design and modern restaurant culture. Translating literally to ‘as you wish’, the name Ruyi derives from a Chinese heirloom symbolising power and good fortune. In typical Hecker Guthrie style, Ruyi interior is beautifully considered and highly resolved in it’s entirety. For me, the real strength of this project lies in all the special little details…
