• Comfort Hotel Grand Central // Oslo, Norway.

Well, well, well… I never thought I’d be sharing a chain hotel interior with you guys. A budget one at that. But as they say – never say never. The new Grand Central hotel in Oslo, Norway breaks all the boring, super-safe, baige-on-baige rules of tragic chain hotels. These guys clearly watch what’s going on in the world of design and lifestyle, so they stepped up their game and created a fresh, edgy and fun interior.

There are 170 rooms in total. It certainly helps that the ceilings are high and the existing building fabric is heritage. Design architects Lars Helling and Ajas Mellbye made clever choices with bold colours and key furniture/ lighting/ artwork/ props, which make me forgive some of the shonky detailing (I put this down as a limited budget issue). Artist Ariel McMillion was responsible for all the murals and prints used throughout. The hotel even has it’s own website which lists 12 Good Reasons To Stay. Clever.

Next time I see a new chain hotel which looks less than inspiring, I am going to scream! As we can see here – there is no reason for that type of ignorant carry-on any more. Ok, I’m done.
