It’s Friday – hooray! And Friday is an interview day on yellowtrace, right?! Right. So why don’t I have an interview for your today, you ask. Hmm… Well… That’s because all the fabulous, interesting and creative people I’m in the process of interviewing have been really busy, and haven’t had the time to get all their stuff back to me. So instead of a “real interview”, I have a little “pretend interview” for you all. I know, how very cunning of me.

Images above and below are of the recently opened Bloodwood restaurant, located on King St in Newtown. This restaurant is co-owned by three chefs with a fine dining background – Jo Ward, Claire van Vuuren & Mitch Grady {the three have met whilst working at Claude’s in Woollahra}. Blackwood was designed by Matt Woods, who graduated from Industrial Design at Newcastle University in 2001, who has since then worked in manufacturing, design & architecture.

Below are some drawings and words I found on Matt Woods’ blog which explain the brief and his approach in a little bit more detail {this is the “pretend interview” bit}.

“…Set within a bar like environment the desire to bring the opportunity for a pretence free fine dining experience in a relaxed atmosphere to Newtown has been the major priority for the Bloodwood crew. As such the interiors have been designed to compliment the inner west’s social hubs attitude and are designed to be warm, inviting, interesting and unique.”

“Having managed all aspects of the design, Bloodwood has presented me with the opportunity to explore more unconventional finishes and details and has been my most rewarding project to date. Keeping on budget has been a challenge yet has allowed me to push the boundaries of conventional bar interiors implementing deign methodologies that are truly distinctive…”
