In his photographic series ‘Fiction’, French photographer Antoine Mercusot captures still-life portraits set within architectural models. These sets feature miniature worlds created from timber, cardboard, paper and plastic. “I wanted to develop the characters in model space. These universes refer to contemporary architecture, where the simplicity of the lines, the righteousness of the form, the work of matter are at the origin of this discipline. Only light is able to reveal and highlight these volumes. These environments appear to be empty spaces, sanitised, where time seems to have stopped, leaving room for attitudes and psychological dimension silhouettes looming,” explains Mercusot.Antoine Mercusot was born in 1982 in Dijon and now lives in Paris. While flipping through a magazine in the late 80s, he discovers the portfolio of Irving Penn, instantly becoming interested in photography and portraiture. He became a freelance photographer in 2007, working on documentaries, portraits, architectural photography and film.
