Kyiv-based architect Katya Zuieva of AKZ Architectura knows how to make a statement without shouting. Her latest project, Bazhane boutique is the embodiment of less is more approach. This 200-square-metre retail space strips away the fluff. No decorative chaos, no trying-too-hard moments—just clean lines and smart choices that let the clothes do the talking. The long, narrow space works in Zuieva’s favour. She’s split it into two zones, starting with a timber and travertine reception desk that draws visitors straight inside. It’s simple but striking—exactly what you want from a first impression.Pattern Studio Creates Intimate Retail Haven for Deiji's Sydney Expansion. This 35-square-metre store prioritises warmth and accessibility over exclusivity. Custom oak joinery anchors the space, while the central fitting room maximises flow through the intimate environment. The clothing rails deserve a special mention. Instead of basic metal bars, each one sits on a cone-shaped base. It’s a small touch that makes everything feel more considered, more intentional. But the real hero here is the central table. Chunky timber base, deep green top—it anchors the whole interior. Surrounded by vintage Poliform chairs from the 1970s and a solid timber bench, it’s where the magic happens: client meetings, product displays, even events. The material choices are spot-on. Oak panels wrap the walls and flow into built-in shelving with a large mirror. The waiting area mixes a black leather Gianni Songia sofa with concrete tables from Ferm Living and a low vintage chair. It feels curated without being precious.Through a timber doorway, you’ll find the fitting rooms. The open area has mirrors and seating, while three private rooms hide behind linen curtains. Inside: oval mirrors in timber frames and carpet underfoot. Cosy but not cramped.DualSpace Studio Transforms a Kuala Lumpur Store into a Cinematic Experience.DualSpace Studio drew inspiration from Wes Anderson's meticulous aesthetic. From 3D-printed railing motifs to a sculptural table leg by Taiwanese artist Money Wang, every detail contributes to a cohesive narrative. The white sections balance all that warm timber perfectly. Ukrainian artist Dmytro Kozynets contributes a graphic painting, while local studio Cegla designed a folded textile lamp. Green quartzite shelves add texture before reaching the VIP fitting room, tucked behind mirrored panels. The clever bit is that the ceiling lights everything evenly. No harsh shadows, no colour distortion. Clothes look exactly as they should, which is kind of the whole point.Bazhane works because every choice has a reason. Nothing’s there just for show. In a world full of Instagram-bait interiors, this kind of honest design feels refreshing. Zuieva has created a space that serves its purpose beautifully.Studio Manifold’s Design Double-Header in Melbourne’s Collingwood. In a heritage-listed building on Peel Street, Studio Manifold has designed two distinct but philosophically aligned projects I can only describe as a design double-header.
