Fabric Warehouse by Fearon Hay // Auckland, New Zealand.

    12th October

We all know by now that Fearon Hay Architects are pretty hot. As in, major levels of extreme hotness come out of their Auckland studio. Consistently. It’s exhausting. I’ve been keeping a close eye on their equally hot website, and I felt super excited when I recently discovered their latest project which I am sharing with you today…

Homage To The Lost Spaces // Public Installation by Mike Hewson.

    26th June

Mike Hewson is a civil engineer and a self-taught artist based in Christchurch, New Zealand. This self-initiated trompe l’oeil style installation, funded with private donations and his own money, is Hewson’s personal response to the devastating Christchurch earthquake and it’s aftermath. Before it disappeared forever, Hewson set out to pay homage to badly damaged Cranmer Courts building destined for demolition. This is such a powerful and eery project which would have undoubtedly elicited countless memories and a huge sense of loss for many residents of Christchurch. I am truly in awe and profoundly humbled by this work…

Design Free Thursday | Aerial Nudes by John Crawford.

    21st June

This is such a fascinating birds-eye-view image series by Auckland based John Crawford, who is one of New Zealand’s best known photographers. The juxtaposition of single naked body placed within carefully arranged set-ups at interesting locations is truly bizarre, but something about it made me stop and look. Perhaps it’s the fact that the images are so striking and impeccably composed, with a “Where’s Wally?” element that makes them quirky and hilarious…

Faceture by Phil Cuttance | Guest Post by The Minimalist.

    24th April

New Zealand native Phil Cuttance is the creative mind behind the extraordinary Faceture series which consists of handmade faceted vessels, light-shades and a table. Phil produces each object individually by casting a water-based resin into a simple handmade mould. The mould is then manually manipulated to create each object’s form before each casting, making every piece utterly unique…

    R S Scoular | Jose Gutierrez.

    2nd November

Right-o! Do you remember my recent post about The Research Agency workplace interior by Jose Gutierrez? Yes? Good stuff. Well I’m back with more from the talented Mr Gutierrez who also designed this tiny little gem in 2010 – a 60sqm office space for R S Scoular, a boutique law office located within a 1920′s heritage building in Auckland, New Zealand.

The brief was to create a clean, simple and elegant office that also had a “certain seriousness” about it. The openness and character of the space was respected and bespoke joinery units were carefully designed and inserted to create the architecture. - JG.

Well I don’t know about you but I don’t usually think of lawyers offices as contemporary, minimalist and even sexy. Jose is a master of creating streamlined workplace interiors which …
