Mop & bucket to Yellowtrace HQ please! This Concrete Flat in Paris designed by Rodolphe Parente is something else. Tiny in size but huge on big style and unique personality, perfectly balancing the raw with the bling, the classical with the kitsch. So, so good. Inspired by David Lynch’s TV show Twin Peaks, the client requested “a home where he could feel like the dancing dwarf in his red room”. You know, just your everyday brief. Not.

The red floor in the apartment is reminiscent of velvet curtains – a direct parallel to the Red Room from Twin Peaks. And just like the fictional room on the set of the avant-garde TV show, equipped with nothing but three leather armchairs and a floor lamp, this apartment is also furnished in a Spartan fashion with only the most necessary pieces.

The glossy marquetry floor is made from mahogany, stained in the most brilliant and intense shade of red. The concrete floating shelves are a statement pieces responding to the concrete kitchen on the opposite side. The bedroom is designed to function like a cabin, containing a shower and a dressing room made of brushed stainless steel. Culture before comfort with this design concept, and definitely not for the faint hearted, with Parente responding perfectly to the wishes of his client. I applaud him.
