Housed within different existing buildings, the refurbishment takes advantage of the complexity as a potential tool to generate unexpected and unique spaces where each room is different from the other. The selection of natural and local materials emphasising the Mediterranean essence has been paramount to the project. Another important focus has been the conception of the bathrooms as a space for pleasure – spacious and integrated within the bedrooms – with generous, sculptural freestanding baths. The artist Pedro Oliver has produced a special pictorial work for this project, featuring a series of custom made murals, strategically placed in each room. A simple palette of natural materials is a constant element throughout the project: oak timber, cement sinks and bathrooms walls, restored mares-stone walls (traditional limestone used in typical mallorcan architecture), natural hemp rope, aged leather, linen & cotton textile produced on ancient mallorcan looms, raffia carpets, locally produced wicker baskets etc.The majority of the furniture has been specifically designed for the hotel. Beds, headboards, benches, with pure and simple lines creatine a relaxed, lounging atmosphere within the rooms. A series of aged bronze pieces inspired by traditional metal carts have been designed for bellboys to transport luggage. The same language was used for the design of the wardrobes, desks, minibars and other support furniture.
