In much the same way I am instantly able to discern if a project is Australian (due to light conditions, photography style, and a certain relaxed aesthetic), my eye has become pretty finely tuned to the unique charms of Milanese interiors. We’ve all heard the saying that ‘Italians Do It Better’, and I would add to this that it’s the Milanese who do it best when it comes to design that makes me shake in my boots.

Some of you may recall me singing praises to the supremely beautiful work of Pietro Russo after meeting him in Milan in 2013. I was instantly taken by Pietro’s sophisticated aesthetic and his truly one-of-a-kind style, and his work probably remains as one my most treasured discoveries from our annual trips to Milan. I was particularly excited when Pietro recently got in touch to introduce us to some of his new work (more to come soon) and also share these images of his previous apartment in Milan, which I’m sure you’ll agree, is a bit of a knockout.

Pietro’s home has evolved over many years, stemming from the long process of accumulating inspiration, ideas and objects. The result is a series of eclectic environments, where objects, materials and lights blend together through tradition and experimentation. Many of the pieces in the house were handmade by Pietro himself, like the bathroom sink and the shower, or the wall, in which, through a process of rediscovery of traces of the past, a big elephant of exotic inspiration is revealed. Super cool.
