Hello everyone! My name is Chloé Douglas and I am a Vancouver designer and the founder of Plenty of Colour, a blog devoted to colour. I am honoured to be guest posting on yellowtrace as Dana welcomes her baby into the world. Can you imagine how stylish and design-minded that wee one will be?

As a lover of finding magic in the everyday and the power of street art, I was instantly captivated by the “Geode” Project. Designer and artist A Common Name creates 3D paper sculptures in the holes of buildings and random pipes around the Los Angeles area. The shapes reference geodes, crystals, quartz and other mineral formations and were created in beautiful metallic colours. Much like the nature shapes they mimic, the pieces are affected by weather and may not last forever. So far there are nine pieces (let’s hope for many more!) and they are mapped out hereA Common Name created the pieces as unexpected treasures among mundane street features and they certainly achieve that goal. How wonderful would it be to come across a glorious paper crystal formation among random bricks of a building?

– Chloé.

[…] Yellowtrace is a fantastic Australian blog with a razor sharp eye for style and design. I am thrilled to be doing a few guest posts for Dana, yellowtrace’s founder, while she is on maternity leave this month. My first is the Geode Project by artist A Common Name, a street art project of paper sculptures created in beautiful metallic colours. Placed in building holes and random pipes, these amazingly intricate crystal formations bring real-life magic to everyday surroundings. Has a drainpipe ever looked better? Read my whole post here.
