American magazine Garden & Gun is a celebration of Southern lifestyle in the 21st century. Not fried chicken per say, but the more soulful side of things like small batch bourbon, bluegrass, beef jerky, and how to care for your hunting dog. It’s a new age Horse & Hound, for the South. The niche publication is popular with well-heeled Southerners, and recently enlisted Charleston-based firm Workstead to envisage a bricks and mortar hospitality experience for the magazine.

Inspired a passion for great food and drink (Southern style) and designed to reflect the aesthetic of the publication, Garden & Gun Club Restaurant is an all-day restaurant and cocktail bar. Located within a new multipurpose development called The Battery in Atlanta, the 158 square metre space features a club bar, oyster bar, and dining room.

Inside, one can imagine debating a hunt, smoking a cigar, and sipping Sazerac or a mint julep. The Club Bar is an intimate space clad in mustard coloured wood panels. The curved cypress bar with soapstone countertop is the centrepiece atop plaid tiles. The Oyster Bar acts as a divider between the two sides of the restaurant—beyond it is the grand upholstered dining room. Cypress booths and banquettes run along the perimeter of the space, and glass panels emit light into the room from above. Workstead also created the chandeliers and sconces for the space—a custom design intended to evoke a modern antler form.
