Ferris McGuinty is Cornwall-based artist whose work carries across a varying field of output, from sculpture and assemblage to furniture and lighting. In his current body of work he focuses on assemblage, which primarily explores the relationship between material, form, and balance. Composition and spatial relationships are of a central concern to the artist. The scale of the works attempt to allow the viewer intimate access and in turn provides them with a pure aesthetic experience.

Without a specific reference point, the works investigate line, colour, texture, shape, and volume, all of which are imbued with a sense of poetic timelessness. The works seem more to summon a mood as opposed to a message.

In a world saturated with digital and high tech, Ferris’ works are all about the analogue approach and humble materials. Their ordinary qualities are precisely what makes his pieces so beautiful and charming.

When it comes to making, Ferris let’s his material and objects speak for itself in terms of how they want to be. It’s a very organic process. “I work a lot with found objects, often things that in themselves can tell a story, and marry these objects together to create the assemblages. The balancing act of these informs the work”, explains the artist.
