An experiment is a test, trial, or tentative procedure; an act or operation for the purpose of discovering the unknown. An attempt at something different; an effort to be original. While carrying out an experiment, new ideas or methods emerge, therefore nourishing our environment and society.

Experimento is also the name of a creative community and agency based in Madrid. Providing services in the disciplines of design, architecture, food, technology, film, fashion, advertising, branding, music, art and media, the agency strives to create an intellectual and social environment that, throughout the exchange of knowledge, is able to generate new projects, movements and actions that enrich Madrid’s design scene.

For their new office space, Experimento engaged Plutarco, a multidisciplinary local design studio founded by Ana Arana and Enrique Ventosa in 2015. With their flexible approach to interiors, combining their mutual architectural background with art, food and design, the studio was a natural fit for this project. Providing a whole spectrum of custom-made solutions with refreshing aesthetics and concepts, Plutarco enjoys taking risks and avoids using the same solution twice.

Located in Madrid’s Chamberi district, this project combines Experimento’s own offices with a ‘House of Creatives’ and a ‘Gallery’ space. The ‘House of Creatives’ is a private community with a series of three very unique spaces available for rent: the naked room, the red room and the dark room.

The naked room is a diaphanous interior with white and raw walls and neutral concrete flooring, designed as a multipurpose space for events, workshops, presentations and photo shoots. The red room has a fully equipped kitchen and an open area with a 3m tall magazine shelf. Space can be separated by two curtains, featuring a total red look – floor, walls, curtains, kitchen and furniture – designed for avant-garde photo shoots and informal gatherings of 10 to 15 people. The dark room is the most special of them all. Sporting a totally dark blue look – complete with reflective resin floor, walls and furniture – the space is equipped with one mirror wall that alters the perception of depth. Featuring a long table for 22 people, this space can host special dinner gatherings and celebrations, as well as workshops or photo shoots.

The contemporary design gallery provides a space to celebrate Spanish design, as well as the international talent. Each exhibition is carefully curated under a specific theme, displaying a wide range of creative disciplines – from product design to art, food and fashion.
