Monochrome Masterpieces | Black and White Design Trends Curated by Yellowtrace.

Lately I’ve been noticing a significant amount of black and white examples of interiors and architecture. I’m talking houses, apartments, hotels, shops, schools, offices, churches, studios etc. You name it, I’ve seen it. Today I wanted to explore some of the finest and most dramatic examples of these Monochrome Masterpieces. Although the black & white palette has been around since the dawn of day, in fact – I dare say it is possibly THE most popular choice in the world of design – I am specifically interested in examples that really take the use of the two “non-colours” to a whole new level, and in doing so break new grounds.

These spaces are about extreme contrasts, bold gestures, sharp and refined detailing, slicing and carving of volumes that create a dramatic distinction between the positive and the negative, solid and void. All of them have shown a hard-core commitment to the black & white palette and I am here to applaud them. Buckle up – it’s going to be a craaaaazy ride! (So crazy that this post had to be split in two parts.)

Black and white minimalism always gives me a sense of Yin and Yang which, when used in equal proportions, I find very aesthetically pleasing. More often than not, it can be over done or not applied well, however, in many of the images provided in this post it has been conducted exquisitely. I am particularly a fan of the ‘Tower Studio.’ I have seen this before and give thanks for bringing it back to my attention. Although, opinions on this build seem extremely mixed! What do you think to it?
