Happy Holidays from Yellowtrace & Slim Aarons!

    20th December

Dearest Yellowtracers, Can you believe we’ve almost reached the end of another amazing year together? What more could I possibly say that I haven’t already? You know I totally love you guys, right? By now it should be bleeding obvious. I heard a little saying the other day which made me laugh and I wanted to share it with you guys. “Life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes”…

    27th November

Dearest Yellowtracers, Can you believe we’ve been friends for almost 4 years now? True story! This blog turns 4 on December 1st. I would like to thank each and every one of you for spending a part of your day with Yellowtrace – for your time, the trust you place in us, for coming back to visit us – sometimes on your own, sometimes with your friends and loved ones. In our continued commitment to develop this site, I hope you will take a moment to complete our 2013 Reader Survey. In return, I will shower you with love and affection (lucky you), which may of may not include countless virtual bum-taps and high fives. But more importantly, completing the survey will give you the chance to win some awesome prizes. Given it is our (almost) 4th birthday, we’ve curated a prize pool around one of my all time favourite design trends – Thin Black Lines. Hooray! We’ve partnered with 7 of our valued friends and sponsors who are generously offering you the chance to win fantastic prizes valued at $4,500. I know – shut up! Let’s have a closer look at the super cool stuff that’s up for grabs…

Design Free Thursday // Middle Class Problems.

    10th October

Twitter account @middleclassprob is a hilarious feed that highlights “real problems. But not real actual problems, just middle class ones.” BuzzFeed recently paired some of the tweets with stock images of heartbroken people. I’ve been laughing about it for days. Us humans can be so friggin’ stupid and shallow at times…

So Hot Right Now // Mobile Buildings.

    4th October

It’s certainly no news the (Western) world has been moving towards a more mobile existence for quite some time. Advancement of technology in combination with our continued pursuit of alternative lifestyle has brought about many developments towards innovative, or should I say – less conventional ways of working, living and holidaying. One such example is the move towards mobile buildings. Whilst this is far from being a new trend, it’s definitely interesting to see how varied these buildings are in their usage and the way in which they are configured. From true mobile dwellings such as the repurposed vehicles and shipping containers, to more conventional shelters designed to fit on the back of a bicycle or a truck, these interesting examples of mobile buildings from around the globe are a real-life comment about the mobile-nature of the world we live in…

House of Dust by Antonino Cardillo // Rome, Italy.

    27th September

Italian architect Antonino Cardillo has designed a House of Dust in Rome based on the geometric ratio of the golden section. This is a courageous project with a fresh aesthetic and a unique vision. It’s the kind of interior that creates new trends, memes and movements. In today’s day and age where we are exposed to the entire world through our computer screens, designers tend to move towards a more unified aesthetic as we are all influencing each other so greatly. This is why it is so important to see projects like this one, that break the mould and bring so much individual character to the table. I realise this aesthetic is not for everyone. It’s not a home I would chose to live in either. Having said this, I know this space will come up in my references next time I am seeing to create something a little less ordinary…
