    Radio Royaal, Eindhoven.

    23rd November

Radio Royaal is a so-hip-it-hurts restaurant located in Eindhoven’s Strijp-S – an enormous factory and warehouse previously owned by Philips. The restaurant was created by Niels Wouter, Bart Gardenier and Stella Birsak as a pop-up during last year’s Dutch Design Week. The concept was such a huge success that the owners decided to set up shop permanently…

As Good As New pop-up shop by i29 // Amsterdam.

    24th October

Well isn’t this just a little bit clever? You’re looking at a pop-up shop for a second hand Dutch furniture brand As Good As New. Located in one of Amsterdam’s super-cool fashion stores SPRMRKT (who’s owner clearly isn’t a fan of vowels), the project is a collaboration between advertising agency Gummo, Dutch studio i29 and Krimpex coating systems…

Stairway to Heaven by Studio Bertjan Pot.

    3rd April

Remember my post last week on three products on my lust list? Well… that post, and more specifically those crazy QUELLE FÊTE (II) melting disco balls are what reminded me to blog about this cooltown installation by Studio Bertjan Pot. Because those big shiny melting balls feature in this very interior (oh stop it, how else would you describe them?!)

This is what Studio Bertjan Pot have to say about the project…

Red Bull HQ in Amsterdam | Sid Lee Architecture.

    12th December

As a practicing interior designer, one of my personal pet-hates are over the top, tricked-up, gimmicky workplaces that try too hard and look outdated from the moment they are conceived. Yuck! Unfortunately I come across far too many examples of such interiors almost daily. Why oh WHY is this still happening?!

***Insert angry roar of frustration and rage here***

Look, I’ll be the first to admit that it is not easy to craft a workplace which is interesting, creative, takes a risk, pushes the boundaries of conventional beige-and-dead-boring-workplace-aesthetic, embodies the company brand etc, yet manages to deliver a fresh,  functional and relevant interior. This is NOT EASY at all! But it can be done dammit! Yes it can – …

    Hotel The Exchange | Amsterdam.

    7th December

The genius of Dutch design studio Ina & Matt strikes again (I previously blogged about their work here) – this time in the form of a concept hotel in Amsterdam called Hotel The Exchange. Conceived and presented more like an art installation rather than a conventional interior, this hotel has rooms which are dressed like models on a catwalk. Engaged by Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy (see previous blog post), Ina & Matt collaborated with students from AMFI – Amsterdam Fashion Institute to deliver the project. Man, imagine how trilling it would have been for AMFI students to work on this…
