Curtain Call by Ron Arad | Roundhouse, London.

    22nd August

Curtain Call is a kick-ass installation designed by Ron Arad and located at London’s Roudhouse, a space dedicated to nurturing creative young talent and presenting an eclectic line up in Live Music, Theatre, Circus and New Media. Instead of a typical theatre or movie screen, Curtain Call offers a giant suspended circular installation made up of 5,600 silicon rods resulting in a 360-degree interactive venue. Given that these rods are translucent, the projections can be witnessed from both inside and outside the ‘circle’…

Eco Pavilion 2011 by MMX Studio | Mexico City.

    15th June

Every once in a while I will see something which makes me look at things in a different way. More often than not this occurs when I witness a clever reinterpretation of a conventional subject (or an object), a simple idea executed beautifully which redefines everyday concepts. Oh how I love when this happens. I feel like my horizon expands and my design vision extends. Perhaps this is because my design vision is so short sighted with much room for improvement? Who knows.
Anyway… This was precisely the feeling I got when I saw the 2011 ECO Pavilion in Mexico City. I mean seriously – how friggin clever?! It is just a whole bunch of rope interwoven through a single space. How amazing can it be? Well, turns out it can be pretty bloody amazing…

Temporary Architecture in a Pop Up City | Guest Post by Textile and Terrain.

    3rd May

Hello Again! We are still here blogging away while Dana and Husband globe trot. Thankfully they have been sent out into the ether on an expedition to bring back inspirational imagery of the design wares of Europe and indeed the world! Textile and Terrain promised to do a little baby sitting. SO here goes…

Pop-up bars, cafes and shops are becoming more and more familiar in our cities. Sydney has just had the pleasure of the model of sustainability - Joost Café at the Rocks, which caused quite a stir! But really – this is small scale pop-up. What if you created an entirely self sufficient temporary city in the middle of the desert, with no infrastructure to support it? Well…… it happenes every year in August/ September in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert for BURNING MAN!

    Venice Biennale 2010.

    6th September

The 12th International Architecture Exhibition is being held until 21st November 2010 at the Giardini and at the Arsenale, and in various other venues in Venice. Entitled ‘People meet in Architecture’, the participating 48 international firms, architects, engineers and artists are illustrating their positions regarding the interaction of new social and natural environments.

The Venice Biennale has for over a century been one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world. Established in 1895, the Biennale has an attendance today of over 370,000 visitors at the Art Exhibition.

This year the 12th International Architecture Exhibition is directed by Kazuyo Sejima of SANAA (she is also this year’s Pritzker Prize winner… this may be inappropriate, but she is my intellectual girl crush material). As the first female director of Venice’s architecture biennale, Sejima’s intention is to explore the relationship between architecture and new lifestyles and values in society. “The idea is to help people relate to architecture, to help architecture relate to people, and to help people relate to themselves… In the end, we would be happy if, thanks to this exhibition, we could feel where our society might be going, what dreams the future might hold for us” said Sejima…
