Regular and long standing readers of this blog may recall my post about Painted People by Alexa Meade almost two years ago in which I reckoned I died from the awesomeness of Alexa’s work. Anyway, turns out I lived just so I could bring you an update on what this young lady’s been up to in the last couple of years…

In this colour-study body art series, eclectic Swiss artist Olaf Breuning investigates the possibility of using the human form as a canvas. Red, blue, yellow and green are used against inky black background creating a super striking effect. Even though this is not the first time you’re seeing painted people on yellowtrace, I was quite intrigued with the way Breuning references famous artists such as Jackson Pollock, Jasper Johns, and particularly Andy Warhol’s famous Marylin Diptych series…

How nuts is this? Peruvian artist Cecilia Paredes loves messing with our minds and performing disappearing acts in front of our eyes. Acting as both the photographer and the subject with cunning help of her assistants, she creates photo performance based works by blending herself into her own bold and colourful paintings using make-up and body paint…

Well I’ll be dipped in shit and rolled in bread crumbs! This is seriously one of the coolest things I’ve seen in ages.

These artworks are by Alexa Meade, a 23-year-old artist based in Washington DC, whose work is a combination of installation, painting, performance, photography and video art. Instead of painting on flat canvas, Alexa paints her image directly on people (!!) and other three-dimensional subjects.
