Eixample Apartment by Bach arquitectes // Barcelona, Spain.

    18th June

I’m having one of those “I wish I was a Spainish architect” moments again. The current cause of envy is Bach arquitectes, a Barcelona based studio who were handed this original 1910′s apartment and asked to convert it into a current day, family home. With so many winning features lacing the original bones of the apartment, the trickiest part was adapting the space to their client’s needs whilst preserving the beauty of the original structure. The architects likened the process to solving a “jigsaw puzzle.” They altered floor levels and recessed joinery below cornice level in order to keep skirtings, cornices and flooring intact. If you trace your eyes along the cornices, you can spot where walls have been lost…

James Jebbia’s Greenwich Village Loft // New York.

    4th June

Today we venture into the Greenwich Village loft of James Jebbia, which he shares with his young family. Jebbia is the owner of streetwear label, Supreme. Quite the departure from his label’s aesthetic, his home is minimal, delicate and paired back. Perhaps the natural light pouring through those mighty steel windows made him turn to whites and neutrals…

TriBeCa Loft by Nexus Designs // New York City.

    6th May

Located in a former wrapping paper factory in New York City’s Tribeca, this fourth floor loft was recently transformed by the lucky ducks from Melbourne studio Nexus Designs. Inspired by the Blue Mountains in New South Whales, dusky blue and purple upholstery is complemented by warm timbers and vibrant yellow tones. The aim was to create multiple living areas to provide intimacy and flexibility within the greater space…

Old Chalet Refurbishment by Bergdorf & Nick Ruef // Bernese Oberland, Switzerland.

    30th April

Located in Interlaken in Bernese Oberland (Bernese Highlands) in Switzerland, this beautiful 200 year-old farmhouse dates back to early 1800s. In 1890, the property was turned into a country house. This year, the chalet was lovingly refurbished by Swiss design agency Bergdorf in collaboration with Berne-based architect Nick Ruef…

Ett Hem Hotel by Studio Ilse // Stockholm, Sweden.

    22nd February

I first became aware of Ett Hem Stockholm almost a year ago, however it wasn’t until just the other day that I was compelled to post my own little tribute to this wonderful interior. Ett Hem (“a home” in Swedish) is a 12 room boutique hotel situated in a former diplomat’s townhouse dating back to 1910. The original building was designed by architect Fredrik Dahlberg, and it was lovingly refurbished last year, ensuring the sprit of the original house was preserved, while crafting a contemporary hotel that feels like a home…
