Design Free Thursday // Idols by Hamra Abbas.

    16th May

Pakistani artist Hamra Abbas uses a wide range of media – paper collage, painting, ephemeral soft plasticine sculptures and video are all a part of her cunning toolkit. I am particularly drawn to her Idols series in which Abbas mixes miniatures with exaggerated forms, and realism with pop art. This impressive collection of work in progress are blown-up digital photographs of miniature clay sculptures…

Design Free Thursday // Hate Mail by Mr Bingo.

    18th April

It all started one drunken night (as many worth while things do). London artist Mr Bingo tweeted “I will send an offensive postcard to the first person to reply to this message”. Smithson’s clever series features the artist’s grandmother dressed in hilarious outfits creating a different scene in each image. What a hoot!

    21st March

Young Dutch photographer Lauren Hillebrandt finds inspiration in mundane routines of everyday life. Her images capture the absurdity of common objects transformed into fun sculptures and small works of art…

Napoléon Apartment Renovation in Paris by FREAKS freearchitects.

    5th March

This lovely heritage apartment is equal parts beautiful, clever and fun. Recently refurbished by FREAKS freearchitects, it is located on the Rue de Rivoli in Paris, which happens to be an old address of Napoleon I. In order to celebrate this crazy historical fact, the architects dressed up as the former emperor for the photo shoot, which explains the silly hats…
