Gumtree Garden Pop-Up Bar by Yellowtrace.

    29th November

I’m so excited to share with you one of the latest projects designed by Yellowtrace – the Gumtree Garden pop-up bar which took place over just 4 nights during November. This very special pop-up bar was built in less than 48 hours, featuring items sourced on Gumtree in the local Sydney area. Situated in the heart of The Rocks, on Sydney’s oldest cobblestoned lane-way – Kendall Lane, the pop-up served fine Australian beer and wine and a delicious menu created by celebrity chef Hayden Quinn…

Design Masterclass & Interview With The One And Only PATRICIA URQUIOLA!

    21st November

I had the great privilege of being invited to attend Patricia Urquiola’s exclusive master class earlier this week, as part of Space Furniture’s 20th birthday celebrations. The three hour design ‘workshop’ explored ideas through the hands-on making, based on the way Patricia’s own studio works in Milan. The class was a bit like play-school for grown-up designers – colourful, exploratory and times almost silly, but so friggin fun and liberating. In truth, most of us who were there would have been happy digging trenches if it meant spending some time alongside one of the world’s brightest design stars. There are simply no words to describe how extraordinary this woman is. I bow to her, respect and admire her to the moon and back, with intensity only those closest to me can comprehend. Despite her worldwide superstardom, I am happy to report that Patricia is as humble, grounded, real and generous in person, just like one would expect from her work. After the workshop, I was extremely lucky to have Patricia all to myself for my first ever one-on-one, proper grown-up “real life” interview…

KE-ZU Showroom Installation by Yellowtrace for Sydney Indesign 2013.

    18th September

Our installation explored the limits between real & imagined spaces, particularly relating to the “Design Process”. The concept was based on the idea of two unfolded boxes which became platforms for furniture display. The box itself could have been interpreted in two ways – 1) an unfolded container used to transport the furniture from its country of origin all the way to the KE-ZU showroom; 2) 3D spaces representing imagined new possibilities as future “homes” for the furniture. This idea was further reinforced by the large fabric screen which created a life-size impression of another space transported into KE-ZU showroom. Great. Now that we knew what we were doing, it was only a matter of finding friends and suppliers who could help us pull it all together. Easy, right? Well, not exactly…

    One Thousand Posts and Stuff…

    16th September

Dearest readers, this post is part self-indulgent, part a little thank-you for hanging out with us for One Thousand posts. Hooray! I seriously cannot believe I’ve hit the “publish button” 1000 times. So much has happened since the beginning of Yellowtrace, both personally and work-wise. The last three or so years have been the scariest and by far the awesomest in my life. And things are about to get even more exciting…

Fred International’s New Sydney Showroom by Yellowtrace.

    5th September

Fred International is a Scandinavian furniture import business, with a brand new Sydney showroom in Rosebery, designed by yours truly. In case you haven’t already visited Fred’s showroom, just imagine a space full to the brim with some of the best Scandinavian furniture, lighting and home-wares available in Australia. But don’t just take my word for it – have a little browse through Fred’s website if you’re not already familiar with the range. It’s seriously stunning. Michael Liira started the business in 2007, and since then I’ve had the good fortune of working with him on a couple of other occasions…
