Once again the first week of the month rolls around so from us here at Yellowtrace HQ we bring you the Yellowtrace Spotlight! What’s happening in the world of design this month you ask? In our July edition you can read about a selection of the best submissions we have received in the past month, we’re talking – exhibitions, restaurants, products, art projects, office and shop interiors, etc.
Paris-based Lebanese-born restaurateurs, Liza Soughayar and Ziad Asseily, recently made a comeback on the upmarket Middle Eastern dining scene with their latest venture – Liza Beirut. The restaurant, named after it’s owner and the city that inspired it, is located in the stylish suburb of Achrafieh in East Beirut. The sprawling 500sqm interior is housed on the first floor of a historical venue that is the Metropolitan Club – the former residence of some of Lebanon’s most prominent families.
Ester Restaurant & Bar is located in a former loading dock of a two storey warehouse in Sydney’s Chippendale. Masterfully transformed by Anthony Gill Architects, this deceivingly simple interior pays respect to it’s semi-industrial context, resulting in a contemporary dining hot-spot with a robust yet sophisticated feel. Kettner’s is one of London’s most precious & nostalgic lounge spots, re-vamped by Studio Ilse in the luxurious, aristocratic tone from the past.
In the heart of Berlin’s City West district, wildlife and city life coexist within the shadows of the 25hours Hotel. Part of the Bikini Berlin redevelopment project, this historic building—an important example of post-war modernism—serves as an urban oasis for visitors and locals alike. Housed in the Kleines Hochhaus, which forms a part of the iconic Bikini Berlin, the hotel has preserved or restored the original 1950s architecture wherever possible.
Tucked in the middle of the up-and-coming Groen Kwartier, The Jane Antwerp is the much anticipated establishment of star chef Sergio Herman and chef Nick Bril. Housed within the chapel of a former military hospital, the restaurant’s interior was the charge of Dutch designer Piet Boon who enlisted the help of a number of extremely awesome collaborators on commissioned elements.
