Sum Of Us is not a gym where people show off their six-packs. Rather than that, it is a wellness centre dedicated to providing a sanctuary for enhanced wellbeing. Inspired by the concept of transformation and connection and designed by Melbourne-based We Are Huntly, The Sum of Us incorporates yoga, Pilates, treatment and a café.

“Located on High street in Prahran within an existing Victorian double story terrace, our challenge was to transform this residential style building into a functional studio space for wellness,” share We Are Huntly. “We maintained the heritage façade and made a conscious effort to extenuate the existing details and honour the inherited shell.”

The client was a dynamic and empowering group of four who had a vision to create a unique and welcoming health and wellness hub that encompassed a progressive service and a relaxed environment. The essence of the space is to encourage the importance of bringing together a balanced life, mind and body. With the use of light colour timbers and white washed finishes, We Are Huntly intended the space to be fresh honest and approachable.

Using Pilates iconography to reference the core, movement and energy the design enhances the natural and understated beauty of the space. The Ombre blue ceiling wraps down the walls in the café zone, a calm movement from light to dark. The light fittings are key touch points through the interior, the circular form references the human core and the sum of many parts coming together to form a whole.

“The Sum of Us is calm and inviting, creating a mark that feels as beautiful and balanced as the client.”
