If you could develop a spiritual lighting system this is it – a lighting communication device that connects two people thinking of each other, even if they are many miles apart.

Aside from the practical element, the design itself, which let’s face it, is straight up exquisite, the message behind it is inspiring. The lamp is a blend between an electronic, pulse heartbeat and a luminescent flower in bloom. The organic shape of the light, the size and the construction is industrial design at its best.

Emilia Tapprest, the Finnish designer behind this arresting concept developed the lighting prototype by connecting a pair of wifi objects to convey via the lamps, the thoughts of each person and their connection to each other. The devices “wirelessly send and receive ambient light as a subtle, non-verbal language of mutual awareness,” explains Tapprest. It is a transcendental concept beautifully crafted and articulated.

We all have those moments when we are far away from the ones we love and we miss them, think about them and wish there were someway to energetically reach out. Sometimes we find it happens via the phone. You’re thinking of someone, the phone rings and it’s them! This lighting system is an extension of that process – or the physical incarnation of it. Instead of merely sensing someone, you can see it or convey it in real time.

“In practice, the feeling of presence is communicated in two levels. On the one hand you can sense the other person’s existence through real-time heartbeat –each pulse creating a slight change of lightning in your living environment,” says the industrial designer. “Besides, you can readily express that ‘I’m thinking about you right now’ through the simple gesture of touch, translating into light in the remote location.”

With all the wars, anger and disharmony in our world today, being fearful has become synonymous with daily living. This is infinitely increased by our access to 24-hour news feeds. However, this beautiful and profound light offers hope, connection and love. A gentle reminder that in any given moment someone is reaching out to you, thinking of you and sending love. A new version of a 24-hour news feed if you will. Instead of violence, it offers peace and happiness. And that is truly one of the most valuable commodities in our world today.
